As I write this, I have just returned from an AMC meeting. I can report that things are going well for American Mensa, but in her report, Pam Donahoo, executive director of American Mensa, said that a disappointment this year is that testing is running about 10 percent under plan. This is even after a very successful National Testing Day. In our region my sense is we're coming into the winter season that has traditionally been a slow time for testing. To help combat this, the national office has come up with a "Multiple-choice" promotion in which groups choose the one incentive they want to use to boost testing.
In January test-takers get a $5.00 discount. In February test-takers that arrive in pairs will be allowed to take the test 2-for1. In March groups may decide to benefit from a $17 funding fee instead of $15 on tests given between March 1 and March 17. It's up to each group to decide which offer they want to use.
Obviously, testing is the major component in growing the size of your group. The Planning Committee, on which I serve, made increasing testing its number one short-term goal for American Mensa. A successful testing program doesn't come from just proctors doing their job well; all members should be encouraging their relatives and friends to prove themselves by trying our tests. I know the holiday season will be over by the time you read this, but a Mensa gift certificate to take the test is a fun thing to receive anytime, and a real compliment to the recipient.
A happy, healthy New Year to all!
